Eyes on the prize Champion… Eyes on the prize.
With so many things happening around us at the same time, is really easy to get distracted from our goals, responsibilities and even our own lives.
Sometimes during training or your everyday job, you are still doing what you have to do, but your head is just not there. The “not so useful” thing about this is that you can repeat the same movement a million times but wrong because you are not completely focused and then what? Frustration or maybe some tears will appear. You could even hear some screams at the back. Is that necessary?
There is actually no need to feel that way if you can bring the focus in and keep it from the very beginning.
But how can we do this?
Everyday training is actually a great Mindfulness exercise and that’s all we need to maintain our head in the game the whole time.
Have a look at this…
1. Set an Intention.
Before you get into the gym, think or write your intention for that training session. Maybe today it could be enjoying every part of the training or keep the calm during the challenges moves. Whatever it is, keep it in mind.
2. A Goal for the day.
Only one goal for each training session. Polishing, 10 excellent repetitions, 5 great choreographies, etc. After that, you connect your goal with your intention. Example: If you need to do 10 great repetitions, do it with joy, keep yourself calm and just breath.
3. Write a Plan.
And then follow it. Your coach probably has a plan for the day, but you can help by setting your own plan and strategy. What can you do to help yourself achieve what you want? Maybe is focusing on your technique, or do a different warm up. Talk to your coach and ask for ideas to work together and make it happen. I share more about how to have a great relationship with your Coach here!
4. Phone away.
I cannot emphasize this one enough. Your phone with all the social media is a major distractor, those are procrastinator machines. Turn it off, put it away and bring your intention, your goal and your plan with you to training. That’s all you need.
5. Travel in time.
Do you remember that first day when your mom took you to the gym and you fall in love? It was amazing! Right? Bring that feeling back every time you go to training! That little in love kid, excited, happy, ready to do it and try it again and again! Remember your WHY and keep it very close to you all the time!
Every day is one more chance you have to perform at your very best. Connect with yourself (use these tips as well). and your “Big Dream”, focus on enjoying every training session because we only have one life and you never know when all this magic is going to be over, so take all the experience in and make it GOLD!
